Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, where casino betting is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that highlights numerous luxuries accompanying the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
